A viral video captured by a police dash cam is doing the rounds on various social media platforms. The video shows a careless biker’s instant ‘Karma’ moment.

The footage, recorded from a patrolling vehicle, begins with a police chase as officers pursue a group of bikers performing dangerous stunts on a road.

Among them, one overly confident rider decides to take things a step further — twerking on his moving bike right in front of the police vehicle. In an attempt to mock the cops, the biker balances on his seat and starts shaking his hips, seemingly enjoying his moment of defiance.

But Karma doesn’t take long to strike.

Within seconds, the next frame shows the same biker being detained by a police officer and taken in the patrol car. His earlier bravado is nowhere to be seen, instead, he is sobbing as he is taken to the police station.

The viral video was shared on ‘X’ by a popular handle named ‘Ghar Ke Kalesh’.

The final shot of the video shows the once-arrogant biker sitting inside the station, sniffling and wiping his tears and calling his guardians.

Netizens have flooded the comments with laughter and warnings, reminding thrill-seekers that mocking the law has its consequences.

Like coffee houses, tea rooms too are witness to the growth of India through the decades.

“These are spaces that contain within them much of the artistic, political and cultural heritage of the post-1947 settlement in India,” eminent American photographer Jill Freedman once famously said, as these joints, used to house secret meetings of freedom fighters, intellectuals, and artists of British India.

Indeed, for most Indians a day is incomplete if it doesn’t start with a cup of tea, the most widely consumed beverage of the world after water. It has come a long way since Indian Independence. From being a catalyst of several nationalistic movements in Kolkata to becoming the first choice of college students and professionals in Bhubaneswar, the beverage has undergone a lot of changes too.

So much so that Rama Pradhan, the owner of Ram Bhai Tea Cenre at CRP Square in Bhubaneswar, now serves more than a hundred varieties of tea to his customers, with prices ranging between Rs 25 and Rs 100.

It is not just Ram Bhai, there are quite a few popular tea stalls in this City that lure the tea lovers.

This International Tea Day, Sunday POST caught up with owners of some of the admired tea joints and a tea enthusiast to learn about the tea craze in the city.

Cha Biscuit

Cha Biscuit, a utility hangout for young nature enthusiasts at Anandabazar Chhak of Unit-9 area, is the first eco-friendly outlet that offers Kulhad Chai and food in biodegradable packages. Their major variations include Masala Cha, Lemon Tea, Keshar Tea, Red Tea, and Malai Tea. The tea joint also serves as a bikers’ hub, where they launch and finish their journeys.

The proprietor of the unit, Subrat Das, also an advertising professional, says, “Apart from my profession, I am a rider at heart. Bike riding offers loads of joy and roadside tea complements it. Realising the importance of tea for the riders, I decided to open up a tea café for the traveller and adventure lover in 2017”.

Cha Biscuit gained prominence from the beginning, and now it is known as a riding hub in Odisha. “We were the pioneers in serving tea in Kulhad in Odisha in early 2017. Now many tea stalls are following in our footsteps. It gives me immense pleasure that I have taken a little step to avoid single-use plastic for the betterment of society,” said Das.

He says, gifts of nature need to be cherished. One such gift is eco-friendly Kulhads with an earthy scent and feel. These natural gifts are being lost in the competition of modern cafes. Offering one’s favourite beverage in environment-friendly Kulhads and protecting the environment at the same time is a service towards society and the rich culture of Odisha, adds Das, claiming that they never go for tea with artificial essence.

Tapri Time

Sharat Sahoo, entrepreneur and owner of Tapri Time at Chandrasekharpur, is a free spirit having background in hotel management.

He has always been fascinated by the art of hospitality and the joy it brings to people’s lives, says Sahoo.

Expressing his happiness with his profession, he adds, “I find the greatest joy in serving a variety of teas to customers. I believe that a well-brewed cup of tea can create moments of comfort and relaxation. I take pride in my ability to curate unique tea experiences; introducing people to diverse flavours and helping them discover their preferences.”

Throughout his career, Sahoo has claimed to have honed his skills in creating the perfect tea blends, understanding the subtleties of different tea leaves, and ensuring that each cup is crafted with precision.

“I find great satisfaction in witnessing the delight on people’s faces as they savour the flavours I serve. My love for tea and my desire to create a cozy space for tea enthusiasts to unwind and savour a delightful cup of tea led me to establish this unique venture,” he recalls.

Tapri Time, located in the heart of a bustling city, quickly became a popular destination for tea connoisseurs and those seeking a respite from their busy lives. It has the best Malai Cha and Special Cha, according to a tea lover and frequent Tapri Time visitor, Sanket Behera.

Sujit Mohanty, an assistant professor at National Institute of Fashion Technology, says, “Tea, brought to India by the British, is not just a regular drink. It has a wonderful smell and a comforting taste that can make people talk about many things. Whether it’s casual chatting with friends or serious discussions about important national topics, tea helps start meaningful conversations. In our diverse country, tea brings people from different backgrounds together without any difficulty. It goes beyond differences and helps people feel connected, creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Truly, tea has a special power to bring people closer in a unique way.”

According to sources, Sahu had gone to Puri Monday to invite his relatives to his son’s wedding ceremony. The incident occurred when Sahu was returning home.

Patnagarh: A biker sustained severe injuries after a constable, who was part of a Patnagarh police team carrying out a ‘drink and drive’ checking, hit him with his baton Sunday evening.

The injured biker, who has been identified as 30 years old Deepankar Panda of Rugudipada in Bolangir town, was rushed to the Patnagarh sub divisional hospital and is learnt to be undergoing treatment there.

The police’s ‘drink and drive’ checking was being carried out near the Patnagarh-Rampur petrol pump. Just at that time, Deepankar was heading from Patnagarh to Bolangir on his bike. The police on duty signaled him to stop at the checking point. Deepankar, who did not wear helmet, accelerated his bike and tried to speed past the checking point, instead. Seeing this, a constable waved his baton that hit Deepankar.

The hit was so severe that he was bleeding profusely. In spite of that, he was riding the bike till being spotted by two persons travelling in a car at Ulba. They got him admitted at Patnagarh sub divisional hospital.

When asked, Patnagarh inspector-in-charge (IIC) K. Priyanka said the youth was driving fast while the checking was going. It was when a constable was trying to stop him, he, instead of obliging, attempted to run his bike into him. In the process, the constable’s stick may have hit him.

Bhubaneswar: An unprecedented increase in sale of fake helmets has been observed in the Capital city after authorities started clamping down on the offenders violating the traffic norms post implementation of Motor Vehicles (MV) Act earlier this month.
In a reality check by Orissa POST, more than 50 roadside vendors in the city are selling helmets that bear fake ISI mark or none at all. With prices ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 3000, these headgears are selling like hotcakes with buyers giving two hoots to its authenticity.
“I have bought this helmet only to give the traffic police a wide berth. Even if I do buy a genuine one, what’s the guarantee that it will save my life? Besides, I have already bought two authentic helmets earlier which got stolen and it already cost me Rs 6,000,” complains Nirmal Behra.
Under Section 194D of the MV Act, riding without a helmet will attract a fine of Rs 1000, along with 3-month suspension.
However, little does Nirmal know that a rider using low quality helmet is more likely to get injured or killed, as stated in a report by United Nations (UN). In another report by the UN, riders of two-wheelers are 26 times likely to die in a crash than car riders.
Furthermore, while 33.8 per cent of road deaths included two-wheelers in the country, Odisha was rated only second in road deaths after Uttar Pradesh by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in 2016-17.
Meanwhile, an increase in number of these shops has also been recently observed. Abhiram Swain who runs a helmet shop here at Satya Nagar and imports all his products from Delhi has also put his younger son to work. While Swain is aware that his products are not genuine he “doesn’t care as long as this business fetches him profit.”
“I use to sell about 15-20 helmets a month and my business would be around Rs 30,000. However, recently after the authorities starting dealing the offenders with an iron hand, I have sold 30 pieces already. I am expecting even a further increase in demand,” Swain states.
There has been reports of selling overpriced headgears in the city. “They are just making money out of our miseries,” said Sandeep Mohanty a rider here. “I purchased a helmet three months back and it was about Rs 300 but the same helmet is now being sold for about Rs 600.”
